Debt relief is the partial or total forgiveness of debt, or the slowing or stopping of debt growth, owed by individuals, corporations, or nations. Traditionally, from antiquity through the 19th century, it refers to domestic debts, particularly agricultural debts and freeing of debt slaves. In the late 20th century it came to refer primarily to Third World debt, which started exploding with the Latin American debt crisis (Mexico 1982, etc.). In the early 21st century, it is of increased applicability to individuals in developed countries, due to credit bubbles and housing bubbles. From Wikipedia under the

The ATO website says you may incur a tax debt if you claim the tax free threshold and earn more than $16,500 in the financial year. Why exactly do you incur this debt? How exactly can you avoid getting this debt? Thanks. Asked by BP - Tue Mar 29 00:20:54 2011 - Australia - 1 Answers - Comments A. The tax-free threshold is the amount of money you can earn before paying tax. Currently this amount is $6000. If you are studying or receiving benefits, your benefits are calculated with this tax free amount in mind. If you also work, you will be asked if you would like to have the tax free amount applied to your pay (so you wont be taxed on the first $6000 that you earn). This could lead to you receiving the tax free amount twice and being liable to pay it back at the financial year. If you don't claim any benefits you can claim the tax free amount from your employer Answered by fortitudeindifficulttimes - Tue Mar 29 00:43:08 2011 Why would anyone on this board advise to pay debt collectors?
Q. Any one with some knowledge would know once the debt is sold you dont owe the third party one cent as you never took out loan with debt collector.Debts are sold on market for cents on the dollar. Why advise to pay 25% or more, knowing that they will never see the end of the debt.Bottomfeeders prey on people paying up or not showing up for court. Just because someone sells your financial obligation to a third party does not free you from it. My home mortgage was sold to other companies three times, but they did not give me my home for free in the process.
